OUR MISSION

To promote compassionate care, perpetuate the bond between animals and humans, and end the destruction of healthy, adoptable pets so that every animal finds a loving home.

OUR HISTORY

Founded in 1985 as the Northwest Montana Humane Society, we later merged with the Animal Relief Center to become the Humane Society of NW Montana. In July, 2004 we opened the Charlotte Edkins Animal Adoption Center, the first adoption center for companion animals to be built and operated in northwestern Montana by a private nonprofit organization. The Center has proven to be an attractive and welcoming place to provide a safe haven to many dogs and cats while we work to find each one a caring, permanent home.

JOIN US!

Located between two of the fastest growing cities in Montana, Whitefish and Kalispell, the Humane Society of Northwest Montana is home of the Charlotte Edkins Animal Adoption Center. Governed by a Board of Directors, the Humane Society of NW Montana is a private, non-profit 501(c)(3) charity supported almost entirely by donations. We do not receive any local, state, or federal government funding. We are not affiliated with any national animal welfare or humane organization and receive no financial assistance from these groups. Thus, your donations are used locally to provide for the care and nurture of our animals as they await adoption. With your help, we can reach our goal of ending the destruction of healthy, adoptable animals in northwestern Montana.

In addition to facilitating pet adoptions and providing temporary housing for homeless cats and dogs, we offer solution oriented service programs designed to help the community in terms of animal welfare education and pet ownership assistance. Our community service programs are designed to reach students and adults in the Flathead Valley and include an Educational Outreach Program, Pet Food Assistance Program, and Microchip Clinics. Through our Educational Outreach Program, we educate hundreds of school students annually on the topics of animal welfare and animal safety. In conjunction with area retailers and the Flathead Food Bank, we distribute pet food to families in need and to local animal rescue groups. To help pet owners permanently identify their pets and increase the chance that a lost pet be reunited with its owner, we also offer low-cost Microchip Clinics to the general public.
