Volunteer of the Month – September 2010

RonCongratulations! Ron Stevens, Volunteer of the Month for September.

Ron has been a volunteer with the Humane Society of Northwest Montana for two years. His reason for volunteering was because he lost his (best ever) dog and needed to fill a void. Ron said it’s hard to remain sad when you have all those happy pups around you because they’re so fun to watch. Ron enjoys taking the dogs out in the big yard and watching the different character traits in each dog. Some of Ron’s past times are swimming, biking, hiking, Griz Football and hanging out with good friends. Having no pets at home at this time, allows Ron more time for past time fun and volunteering.

Thanks Ron…

Volunteer of the Month – August 2010

Our volunteer of the Month for August is Jan Beumer. Jan has a wonderful personality that is always available to help when we need an extra volunteer. The crazy photograph describes the lengths that she will go to in order to get a dog adopted. Jan has volunteered for the Humane Society of Northwest Montana since we opened in 2004. She was encouraged to volunteer because she wanted to help rescue animals and help find them permanent forever homes. Besides being self- employed, Jan likes to hike, mountain bike and spend time with her pets. Her adopted family consisted of three dogs and one cat all adopted from the Humane Society of Northwest Montana. Congratulations Jan. We appreciate your time.

Volunteer of the Month – July 2010

MarcMarc has been a volunteer since March of 2010 and enjoys spending time playing with the dogs. In the short time that Marc has volunteered, his dedication has made a wonderful difference. The dogs just can't wait to see Marc every Wednesday and Friday when he visits. He especially loves seeing their happy faces. Marc is self employed and enjoys being in the moment, using his creativity in what he does and the personal growth that comes from it. Marc has one dog named Fergie who is a great Pyrenees, heeler mix.

Congratulations Marc!

Volunteer of the Month – June 2010

Sarah McDougallCongratulations Sarah McDougall, June Volunteer of the Month for the Humane Society of Northwest Montana! As a volunteer for the Humane Society, Sarah tackles the tough job of helping staff clean the adoption center in the mornings. Fortunately, her enthusiasm for wanting to spend time with the animals keeps her inspired to come in and help when she's not working. Employed with KRMC for five years, Sarah's also enjoys reading and playing with her dog, Tron, in her spare time. Sarah says what she enjoys most about volunteering is the chance to visit with employees, volunteers and just getting to bond with the animals. Thank-you Sarah!

Volunteer of the Month – May 2010

Harley - Volunteer of the MonthCongratulations Harley Mumma! - May 2010 Volunteer of the Month for the Humane Society.  Harley's interest in the Humane Society started in late 2005 after he and his life partner Nancy along with their five rescued cats retired here from Florida.  While in Florida, Harley volunteered at a local Humane Society and he and Nancy fostered over 40 kittens.  As a true advocate for animals, Harley makes himself available to help out at the adoption center whenever needed.  In addition to volunteering for 'On' and 'Off-site' events, Harley maintains pet banks in Whitefish and Kalispell.  Harley's love of animals and passion for photography have led him to becoming the 'unofficial' photographer for the Humane Society.  Harley documents many of the Humane Society's events through his photography and he is our photographer for the annual Santa Paws event at Murdoch's.  Harley will be photographing our 'adoptables' for the upcoming 2011 Paws & Claws calendar.

Volunteer of the Month – April 2010

Congratulations Michelle Stahlberg, April Volunteer of the Month for the Humane Society of Northwest Montana!   Chelle, as her friends call her, has been volunteering for three years. Her delightful personality and caring nature makes her a very valuable volunteer and a joy to be around.  Chelle gives her all whether brushing cats or giving tours of the facility.  Reading, watching T.V. and visiting with friends are Chelle’s favorite past times.

Thank you Michelle!

Volunteer of the Month - March 2010

Humane Socisty Volunteer of the Month - February 2010Jackie Zelman is our volunteer of the Month for March. Her commitment and involvement with the Charlotte Edkins Animal Adoption Center started about 3 years ago. Jackie's decision to volunteer came after her Cocker Spaniel of 15.5 years passed away.

Playing with the dogs and keeping them accustomed to human contact is what she most enjoys about volunteering. Working in the math department, reading, folk dancing and being with friends, are some of the ways that Jackie keeps busy out side of volunteering.

 Congratulations Jackie!

Volunteer of the Month - February 2010Sue Shives

Thanks, Sue Shives, Humane Society of Northwest Montana’s Volunteer of the Month for February. Sue has been a dedicated volunteer for one year. Her desire to volunteer grew after her Dog, Robin, passed away and Sue realized that volunteering helped fill the void as she helped animals get adopted. Finding forever homes for the dogs has become a new passion; therefore, Sue takes the dogs for long walks, plays with them in the pet park and participates in community events. As a retired nurse, Sue enjoys lot of activities outside the Humane Society of Northwest Montana, such as hiking, running and biking.

Congratulations Sue!

Volunteer of the Month - January 2010

Linda YuleCongratulations to Linda Yule, Humane Society of Northwest Montana’s Volunteer of the Month for January 2010! Linda has been a volunteer for 1 ½ years. She became interested in volunteering when she observed how well the animals were being taken care of and wanted to take part in their care. Her compassion for petting and brushing the cats to help them find new homes is what Linda enjoys most about volunteering. Besides spending time at the Humane Society of Northwest Montana, Linda enjoys spending time with her friends, and working as a licensed clinical professional counselor. She adopted a sweet cat named Peaches, who has decided that she wants to be the only cat in the house.

Thanks Linda!

   Volunteer Program.

Welcome and thank you for your interest in volunteering!

Due to health and safety reasons, Humane Society volunteers must be age 16 or older and all volunteers are required to attend an in-house orientation. We offer a family friendly volunteer program for families with children ages 10 - 15 where the family attends orientation and volunteers together; children must be accompanied by a parent/guardian at all times.

The Humane Society of Northwest Montana is a private, non-profit 501(c)(3) limited admission, no-kill animal adoption center whose mission is "to promote compassionate care, perpetuate the bond between animals and humans, and end the destruction of healthy, adoptable pets so that every animal finds a loving home." Our focus is on finding caring, loving homes for orphaned or abandoned dogs and cats in the Flathead Valley and surrounding areas.

The success of our mission depends on the local community; a dedicated staff, a devoted team of volunteers, and financial support through donations, corporate sponsors, grants and fundraising events. Because we are not an affiliate of any national animal welfare or humane organization, we do not receive any financial assistance from these groups and we do not receive any city, county, state, or federal funding either. In order to provide food and shelter for our orphaned animals, we must consistently work to raise donations to cover daily operational costs.

In addition to caring for the cats and dogs seven days a week, we also facilitate pet adoptions, provide animal welfare education in schools, provide pet food assistance to families in need, reunite lost and found pets with their owners, participate in local community events, provide low-cost microchip clinics to the public, work to strengthen community relationships by joining efforts with other local non-profit groups with like-minded goals, and sponsor an injured animal fund to assist injured pets in need of emergency medical attention who may not otherwise receive the medical care they need. All of these projects and programs require time, talent and resources and that's why we need your help!

If you would like to join in the fun, please make plans to attend an upcoming Volunteer Orientation meeting at the Humane Society. Volunteer orientation is scheduled monthly on a Saturday. The one and one-half hour meeting begins at 11 a.m. and orientation dates are listed on the website.
